Storage Upon Delivery
- Upon delivery, check box and ensure accuracy of the order and condition of devices.
- Return fireworks to closed box and reseal until day of display.
- Store box in a cool, dry place away from children or pets.
Preparation
- Read the instructions on the label of each and every device.
- Decide on a firing order. We recommend going from smaller to larger pieces, alternating between different physical types. Ie. Stick (roman candle), tube on stand (floral), triangle (cake), etc.
- Once an order is established, number the pieces with masking tape and a black marker.
Tools of the Trade
- The recommended method for lighting fireworks is with a bbq lighter. The elongated lighter will ensure that the person lighting the device will not be burned by sparks when the wick ignites.
- Always have a large bucket of water closeby.
- Have a debris bucket for discharged fireworks.
- Use a flashlight to quickly locate and identify fireworks.
- A bucket or wheelbarrow of sand or dirt will be necessary to bury multishot items 1/3 of their length so that they do not tip over during their effect.
- An even, flat surface will be necessary for items on stands that are single shot with their effects in the air.
Sparklers
- Never give sparklers to children under 12 years of age.
- Anyone under 18 years of age using sparklers must be supervised by an adult.
- Always extinguish sparklers in a water-filled bucket.
- The easiest way to light sparklers is with a lit sparkler.
Set-up
- Arrange devices in their firing order.
- Cover unlit fireworks with a box or tarp and ensure they are well away from the firing area and spectators.
- Choose a firing area which is well away from overhead power lines, buildings, structures, or cars. Government of Canada suggests that the firing area should be 20 metres away from spectators.
- Choose a spectator area which is well away from the firing area.
Firing
- Light fireworks one at a time.
- Angle multishot devices 10-15 degrees away from spectators and structures.
- Never approach a malfunctioning firework. Pour water on device and put in your debris bucket
- Do not fire devices in high wind conditions.
After Display
- Pour water over discharged fireworks in debris bucket.
- Keep children and pets away.
- Put in a garbage receptacle the following day.
